Birth of an idea

This website came about because when we were new to Tumbarumba, we were in need of a tradesman in a hurry. We had no idea of where to find one! The poor helpful real estate agent from whom we bought our property ended up helping us find one after the other of the tradies that we needed to get things done around the place (thanks Julie!).

Coming from a background of web and database design for large corporations, I thought, what we need is a web-based service that will help people, particularly those new to town, tap into what is common knowledge amongst the locals.

As well as that, as I was thinking of starting up a Machine Embroidery service in town, I asked around to find out if there were other people already doing this, plus others in the website development game. I didn't want to start up a business doing things if there was already someone doing them (particularly the embroidery) - I didn't want to muscle in on anyone.

So the idea was born to glean a list of all the different services and products offered around town (we were also looking for people who would sell home grown vegies, or their own cow's milk - still looking for them!). My vision is to be able to get all the little cottage industries who do beautiful work, and the local business and tradespeople, who all want to take that next step up the entrepreneurial ladder, to advertise via the internet.

As well as cottage industries, and local trades and businesses, we thought it would also be really useful for people thinking of moving to Tumbarumba to know what is on offer in our town. Things like is there a local high school? (yes) primary schools? (yes, public and catholic), long daycare facilities? (yes) what sort of shopping can we do here? What banking facilities are available? What can we do on the weekends? And the list goes on....

We would really love it if you would love to be part of that vision - enabling new residents, and locals alike, to easily find what is available in our beautiful little part of the world, both things to buy and things to see.
